Students across Walton and Okaloosa counties are now a few weeks into the 2026–2027 school year after starting classes on Tuesday, August 11. For Freeport families and their neighbors in both counties, these early weeks set the rhythm for a successful year.
September brings a couple of important calendar notes. Walton County schools have an early-release day on Friday, September 4, followed by the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7. Okaloosa County schools also observe Labor Day on September 7. These short breaks offer a good opportunity to catch up on rest, review routines and prepare for the remainder of the first grading period.
Simple habits make a big difference. Consistent bedtimes, a quiet place for homework and regular communication with teachers help students stay on track. Check your school’s website or parent portal regularly for assignments, lunch menus and event updates. Many schools also post bus route information and activity calendars online.
Community support strengthens our schools. Whether you volunteer at an event, join a parent organization or simply encourage a young neighbor, small actions matter. Freeport High School and other local campuses welcome family involvement. As the school year continues, remember that every student benefits from steady encouragement at home and in the community.
